Eden : Industry Package Details

  • The Eden Forest Agreement will create long-term certainty and security of timber resources needed for the ongoing development of a sustainable value-adding timber industry in the Eden Region.
  • The industry component of the agreement will see direct jobs growth in the Eden region of up to 49 new forest sector jobs. It will also create opportunities for further timber industry development and employment in the Eden region.
  • The Agreement provides a 20-year wood supply agreement of a minimum 25,000 cubic metres per annum of quota quality logs for the first five years and a minimum 24,000 cubic metres per annum of quota quality logs for the remaining 15 years. Of this supply, 2000 cubic metres per annum will be sourced from outside the Eden Management Area.
  • The NSW Government’s initiatives which will provide direct jobs in the forestry sector include:
  • Development of a new recovery mill at Eden which will employ 44 timber workers. It is anticipated the Recovery Mill will commence operation in 2000, supported by $6 million State Government funding;
  • 30 additional timber worker positions to export softwood pulplogs from the Bombala plantations;
  • 19 jobs generated from substantially expanded forest improvement and inventory operations in the Eden Management Area.
  • The Government’s jobs initiatives are targeted to provide ongoing employment in the Eden forest sector. First priority will be given to timber workers affected by changes in the South East industry.
  • The Government’s industry initiatives will provide sustainable employment and industry growth for the Eden region and ensure the conservation and sustainable management goals of the Eden Forest Agreement are achieved.
