Dear Ministers,

I am pleased to submit the draft report of the Resource and Conservation Assessment Council on the interim forest assessment.

The report may now be placed on public exhibition for comment and a final report will be submitted in July.

I wish to thank Council Members for the cooperation extended by them in the preparation of the report.

In particular, I thank the Director, Rex Bowen, his staff and the officers from both the Government agencies and non-Government organisations who have worked assiduously under extreme pressure to produce this report in the limited time available.
