RACAC Terms of Reference

  1. Interim assessment of high conservation value old growth
  2. Co-ordination of comprehensive regional assessments of public and private forested lands.
  3. Undertake the development of a Comprehensive Adequate and Representative Reserve System.
  4. Facilitate the negotiation of Regional Forest Agreements with the Commonwealth.
  5. Facilitate wilderness assessments in accordance with the following process:
    • Assessment and identification of nominated wilderness to be performed by NPWS in accordance with the provisions of the Wilderness Act 1987;
    • RACAC to have regard to the processes mentioned above and to make recommendations to the Forestry Sub-Committee of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Rural and Natural Resources.
  6. Undertake after reference whole-of-region analyses on the allocation and use of public and private lands.
  7. Facilitate World Heritage, National Estate and other intergovernmental strategic commitments.
  8. Complete the work of the previous Natural Resources Audit Council viz Regional Audit of the Upper North East New South Wales and the general and specific projects funded by that council.
  9. Facilitate the implementation of the biodiversity survey program by assisting NPWS with inter-agency coordination and data exchange protocols.

    Resource and Conservation Assessment Council (RACAC)
    June 1995 - Dec 2003

    RACAC presided over the NSW Forest Agreements program
    from June 1995 to December 2003.

    For continuity this site remains under the name RACAC.
    However, project management and monitoring of the
    NSW Forest Agreements are now provided by the Resource
    and Conservation Unit
    of the
    NSW Department of Environment
    and Climate Change.
